CC: Ear pain, fever, and fussiness HPI: Martina is a 4-year-old girl that was brought to see you by her mother. She has complaints of ear pain, fever, and fussiness. Her mother reports that Martina has been experiencing discomfort and ear pain for the past two days, accompanied by a low-grade fever. She mentions that Martina had been unusually fussy and seems to be having difficulty hearing. She has a history of recurrent upper respiratory infections and has had several ear infections in the past. No Allergies No current meds PE: Martina is a well-developed, well-nourished child that appears to be in discomfort. She is frequently touching and tugging at her right ear. She has a fever of 101.3. The otoscopic exam reveals redness, bulging, and decreased mobility of the right tympanic membrane, consistent with otitis media. The left TM is normal. The rest of the exam is normal. Use the CPG to answer the following questions. Write prescriptions where appropriate. When discussing each class of drug used to treat otitis media, be sure to explain the MOA, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, side effects, contraindications for the class(es), and patient education.
