Discussion - Persuasive Research Speech
Please read about what makes for an interesting and relevant Persuasive speech topic (Chapters 15 & 16), and most importantly a topic that you particularly are interested in researching about.
Propose 5 topics that you believe would be great topics AND that this audience would enjoy hearing and learning about.
Post each of your topics with a brief justification as to why it is a smart choice.
For this speech you WANT to take a "side" and advocate for a specific position. Your goal is to persuade your audience to support a particular opinion, to change their mind about something, or, to take action about a topic your audience probably already agrees with, yet your research tells you individuals are NOT acting upon.
(Example: Change of opinion or attitude: support the "Me Too" Movement with good reasons you propose. Change their mind about something: To adopt a legal definition of "abuse." To take action: Sign a petition for an ballot initiative, or perhaps: subscribe to Heal the Bay newsletter to hopefully become active in ongoing clean ups at the beach.
Once you have posted your five topics, please respond to at least two of your classmates' submissions. Your responses should reflect your close reading of Chapter 15 and what makes for an effective Persuasive Research Speech topic.
