Understanding Media Effects: we want to know what the effects of Media are, so we can promote better media practices and find out if we need to protect our society from the ill effects. Also, companies want to know how well their advertisements work and if we like their entertainment products. First, describe at least two different specific methods for studying the effects of media, giving both pros and cons for each method you identify. (What kind of questions are easier to answer with these research methods, and which are harder?) Then think about an unanswered media effects question to which you would like to know the answer. How could researchers study this? What would be the challenges? Why would it be good to know the answer— who would benefit? Who do you think would fund this research?
