This unit provides you with perspective on the long run-up to the American Civil War. Problems and division in the pre-war period built up over the course of decades, rather than weeks or months. In a discussion post of 250 to 350 spaces of words, evaluate which single event, in your opinion, marked the point of no return before which it was possible to avoid war and after which armed conflict became inevitable. Explain, with evidence from the course text, why you feel as you do. This assignment does ask for opinion, but your opinion MUST be supported by evidence from this unit to justify your argument.
