please read the Focus problem at the beginning of this chapter. Recall that Benford's Law claims that numbers chosen from very large data files tend to have "1" as the first nonzero digit disproportionately often. In fact, research has shown that if you randomly draw a number from a very large data file, the probability of getting a number with "1" as the leading digit is about 0.301 (see the reference in this chapter's Focus problem). Now suppose you are an auditor for a very large corporation. The revenue report involves millions of numbers in a large computer file. Let us say you took a random sample ofn= 216 numerical entries from the file andr=52 of the entries had a first nonzero digit of 1. Letprepresent the population proportion of all numbers in the corporate file that have a first nonzero digit of 1.
i. Test the claim thatpis less than 0.301. Use a = 0.05.
ii. If p is in fact less than 0.301, would it make you suspect that there are not enough numbers in the data file with leading 1's? Could this indicate that the books have been "cooked" by "pumping up" or inflating the numbers? Comment from the viewpoint of a stockholder. Comment from the perspective of the Federal Bureau of Investigation as it looks for money laundering in the form of false profits.
iii. Comment on the following statement: "If we reject the null hypothesis at level of significance a, we have not proved H0 to be false. We can say that the probability is a that we made a mistake in rejecting H0." Based on the outcome of the test, would you recommend further investigation before accusing the company of fraud?
If the temperatures of the inner and outer surfaces of the bottom of the pan are 104°C and 105°C, respectively, determine the rate of energy destruction within the bottom of the pan during this process, in W. Take T0 = 25°C.
What is the probability that the discharge at any instant will equal or exceed 350 cfs - what is the probability that the discharge will fall within the range between 250 and 350 cfs?
Water at 20°C is pumped at 1500 gal/min from the lower to the upper reservoir, as in Fig. P3.141. Pipe friction losses are approximated by hf ˜ 27V2 /(2g), where V is the average velocity in the pipe.

Copper is a good conductor.Doping is a process of adding impurity atoms to an intrinsic crystal to alter its electrical conductivity.
The jet engine in Fig admits air at 20°C and 1 atm at (1), where A1 = 0.5 m2 and V1 = 250 m/s. The fuel-air ratio is 1:30. The air leaves section (2) at 1 atm, V2 = 900 m/s, and A2 = 0.4 m2. Compute the test stand support reaction Rx needed.
