we study the planning and design of transformation processes for goods and services. The goal of any organization is to deliver something of value to the "customer." This is true whether it is a product or a service and for profit or not for profit. The process begins with understanding the customer wants and needs and designing the good or service to meet the needs, which means coordination with marketing and engineering and then producing this good or service which now includes operations and the processes that drive this transformation from idea to design to production of the good or service.

Our discussion this week will focus on this process.

Averett University has been in existence for over 160 years. Research the history of the university and the changes it went through from its founding to the present.

Our Discussion should focus on these questions:

1. How has Averett evolved over time with its course/program offerings? Why do you think these changes occurred?

2. Averett will periodically introduce a new concentration to the business programs or introduce new majors and minors. For example, in 2022, Averett introduced Hospitality Management and Tourism. Why do you think the decision was made to develop this concentration?

3. What process and resources do you think are needed to design the concentration? To create the concentration? To deliver the concentration to students?

4. Do you think this process from identification of the need, to design of the new concentration, to delivery of the concentration to the customer students will be successful? Why or Why not?

5. Did you identify any areas for improvement?

6. How does the decision to offer a new program differ from the decision to build a new facility?
