Health care quality report card is the report created by the third party evaluator that assesses the performance of the health care provider. The results are based on an independent review of the performance of the health care provider. The evaluating organization or evaluator has a predetermined set of criteria that lists certain standards and measures. Some of the important components of the card are access to care, prevention and screening, mental health, treatment of acute and chronic illness, maternity care, and members satisfaction.
Government entities should devote more resources to develop the health care quality report cards. This will help to bridge the gap between current health care practices and high-quality practice in health care. In short, we can say that the effort made by the government to improve the quality report card will help to improve the treatment taken by the patients. (Shortell, Kaluzny, & Burns, 2012) The underlying assumption is that the patients and purchases should have alternatives from which they can select the higher quality provider and the health care provider should try to provide the quality information regarding the performance of their patients and policies. Simply agreeing for the government efforts for the improvement in the health care quality report cards is not enough, there is a need to follow certain things. Firstly, the readers should be engaged to the outset by providing familiar information. Most of the times, the information is presented without any cues and the report card lacks the organizational structure. To resolve this, effective communication techniques should be adopted. Lastly, regular inspection should be done by the government to check if the information presented in the quality report card is according to the performance of the health care provider.
Hence, it is very important for the nation as well as the citizens to ensure that the Healthcare services they are getting are genuine and useful. Federal and state government should make continuous efforts to develop the health care quality report cards. Moreover, the citizens should also support the government by giving their input related to the implementation.
