WHAT CAN I ADD MORE TO THIS DISCUSSION:

Many organizations use performance appraisals to decide on promotions. Do you think this is fair? What are the factors that would make it less fair for employees?

I do think that it is fair to utilize work appraisals to decide on promotions. The performance appraisal covers the individual's ability and motivation. As mentioned by Heneman, "they can offer a complete look at the person's qualifications for the job" (Heneman III, 2019). This is for internal promotions and I believe that it is fair. As long as the appraisal is reliable and unbiased it will be a fair assessment for an internal promotion. It would be less fair for an employee if it were not fair and unbiased. If they are not taking under consideration all of the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other abilities.
