Performance Appraisal Role-Play The ability to provide comprehensive feedback is a skill that is required of anyone who supervises others in the workplace. Like any other skill, the more we practice doing it the right way, the better we get at it. This assignment will give you the opportunity workplace scenario, a formal appraisal tool for your workplace, and prepare for and role-play a performance appraisal discussion. Working in groups of 2 (where possible) students will: 1.a workplace scenario including information about ? the organization and its procedures ? the supervisor (title, responsibilities, experience) the employee (title, job duties, job performance) 2. a performance appraisal tool that is suitable for the organization and the job and fill it out based on the information in your scenario. 3.a script and conduct a role play demonstrating an appropriate performance appraisal discussion between the supervisor and employee. Each group will compile the following components- use headings to ensure that you have covered all of the sections required. Each student will play one of the roles.
Part 1: Workplace Scenario Your group will a scenario that describes the workplace, the supervisor and the employee. The scenario should, at a minimum, answer the questions: What type of organization/ workplace is this set in and what are their processes around performance management? How long has the supervisor worked with the organization? How long has the employee worked with the organization? What are the expectations of the employee's job? How well is the employee meeting these expectations? What is the relationship between the supervisor and employee? What are the potential outcomes of a positive or negative evaluation? Submit your scenario as a word document.
Part 2: Performance Appraisal Tool After reading the section of the text in Chapter 10 on "Formal Appraisal Methods" AND researching how different organizations evaluate or "appraise" their employees, develop a tool to use with your scenario. The tool should not be overly complicated, but should provide reliable and valid information for determining how well someone has been doing their job, and setting goals.
Part 3: Constructive Performance Appraisal Discussion Your group will a script and a video that demonstrates the supervisor having a constructive discussion with the employee. Pay special attention to the section of Chapter 10 titled "Preparing for the Formal Appraisal Discussion". Try to make it a realistic conversation. Submit your script in a Word document as well as a recording showing your group role-playing the successful discussion. If you are not able to get together physically as a group to create the video you can record yourselves on a platform such as Zoom.
