General Manufacturing & Fabrication Company is experiencing a slowdown in Department A, resulting in a decrease of revenue over the past six months. As a result, the workforce needs to be reduced in that program. Five employees will be laid off on the first round. Analyze the information about the employees listed below and determine which five of the employees would be laid off, based on the terms of the contract. All of the employees listed are qualified to perform work in multiple departments. Explain thoroughly why you chose the 5 employees that you did.

Sam: Works in Department A. He has been with the company for 4 years and 3 months. He has been in the same department the entire time he has been with the company.

Jim: Works in Department B. He has been with the company for 6 months in this department. He is the newest employee to the company.

Cindy: Works in Department A. She has been with the company for 4 years and 6 months. She started in Department B and transferred to Department A after being with the company 6 months.

Joan: Works in Department C. She has been with the company 5 years and 2 months. All of her time with the company has been in Department C.

Bill: Works in Department C. He has been with the company for 30 days in this department

Sue: Works in Department A. She started with the company 4 years and 6 months ago. 2 years after she started, she was laid off for 6 months. She was called back to work in Department A.

Ben: Ben has been with company for 6 years. He started in Department B and worked in the department for 3 years. At 3 years, he transferred to Department C. The transfer did not work well, so he requested a transfer back to Department B 60 days after the transfer and was granted the transfer back. 9 months later, Ben requested and transferred to Department A. He has been in that department for 2 years and 1 month.

Steve: Steve works in Department A. He originally started with the company 12 years ago in Department C. He worked there for 8 years. At that point, he had an opportunity with another company, so he resigned and joined another company. After 2 years, the company sold so employees were laid off. At that time, General Manufacturing & Fabrication was hiring, so Steve was able to come back to the company. He was rehired into Department A. He has been in this department for the past 2 years.

Adam: Adam started working in Department A 9 years ago. 3 years ago he was laid off for 3 months. After the 3 months, he received his notification by registered letter of his return date. He reported back to work 8 days after receipt of notification.

Nancy: Nancy started with the company in Department A 6 months ago. This is the only department she has worked in.
