The major selected by university undergraduates tends to shift over time as economic, social and technology conditions change.  It is important for higher education institutions to anticipate selected majors so that resources are in place to meet the demand for more popular majors. Suppose the Nevada System of Higher Education is currently undertaking a study to determine if the proportion distribution of majors at UNR and UNLV might change in the next 2 years. Currently, the proportion distribution of the 5 most popular majors at the two institutions is 1) business with 25% of all majors; 2) various health sciences with 24% of all majors; 3) social sciences with 18% of all majors; 4) education with 17% of all majors; and 5) engineering with 16% of all majors. Analysts for the System of Higher Education survey junior and senior Nevada high school students who have expressed an interest in attending either UNR or UNLV. The analysts ask the surveyed students which major they will select. The results of the survey are as follows:

Intended Major Number of Students Responding

Business 340

Health Sciences 390

Social Sciences 279

Education 225

Engineering 266

The question is: Perform the appropriate test to determine if the proportion distribution of likely most popular majors in the next two years appears to be significantly different from the current proportion distribution. Test at an alpha of .10 and provide a Post Hoc Analysis if necessary.
