  • Write logical, syntactically correct C programs that use proper variables to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Interact with the user via text in the terminal window.
  • Write C code that is properly commented and formatted.

Note: Each assessment builds on the previous one, so you must complete the assessments in order in this course.

Computers are powerful tools that are a part of daily life. That power, though, is only useful when computers are running programs consisting of a structured set of instructions that apply their abilities to solving problems. In this unit, you will start learning how to create your own programs and learn to use the computer's capabilities in order to move from being a user of programs to being a creator of programs. You will learn about basic elements used in programs, such as variables, data types, expressions, and functions for the basic input and output of text. You will also gain experience in writing C code, compiling the code to produce an executable program, and test-running the program in the development environment.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 4: Design a simple program that makes use of fundamental programming concepts.
    • Write a logical, syntactically correct C program.
    • Use variables and data types effectively in a C program.
    • Handle input and output properly in the terminal window.
    • Perform arithmetic calculations using expressions in C.
