Perceptions and the Ecological Self Experiential Exercise
This week's experiential exercise asks you to reflect a bit on the currents of matter, energy, and information that flow through you in your daily life. It also asks you to become more self-reflective about how these currents influence and shape your perceptions and emotions.
Make two lists.
I. Matter and Energy: for a single day, track all of the ways that you participate in larger circuits of matter. This includes food (where it came from, etc.), transportation, infrastructure, etc.. Try to include as much as possible.
II. Information: for a single day, track all of your participation in networks of information. This includes information shared, read, watched, or otherwise consumed. Try to include as much as possible.
Then choose one item off each list and reflect on your emotions or perceptions in relation to that experience. This could be as simply as how a news item made you feel. Include this reflection in your summary reflection below.
Finally, write a brief reflection (one page maximum) that summarizes your experience. This reflection is open-ended, but should include the following:
• Did you notice anything different from completing the exercise?
• What was difficult about the exercise, if anything?
• Make at least one connection with the reading from this week.
