As you know, the percentile for a value is a measure of where that value stands with respect to the rest of the data. As a criterion for college admissions, why would many schools use a percentile value for a standardized test, rather than a raw score? For example, a school might require a Math SAT score better than the 75th percentile rather a raw number like 550.
