Glaucon's central argument is aimed at showing us that people are only good because they fear being punished. The implication of his argument is that people are really selfish and would gladly break the law if they could get a away with it. Do you agree that people are only good because they are fearful of being punished? His argument goes further and claimed that even good people would break the law too if they didn't have to worry about being punished. Do you agree with this argument? Do you think that people have a reason to be good other than just avoiding punishment?
