Question

Drug therapy is different when comparing the pediatric population and the geriatric population, and they each have their own unique differences to ensure safe drug therapy. Pediatric patients have a more accurate assessment of their weight in kilograms, organ function, and the route of medication administration prior to drug therapy. Communication is important when caring for pediatric patients, and should be discussed with the parent or legal guardian of the patient. Geriatric patients require a more thorough assessment of their organ function as their ability to absorb, distribute, metabolize, and excrete medications declines at their age.
