A very successful anti-TB campaign was undertaken in China beginning in 1991, due to widespread infection: over 400 million people were estimated to have TB. The program included the following components: give the justification for each (~1 phrase each):

i. Sputum stained with acid-fast stain for all patients presenting with severe cough

ii. Free treatment to all patients who tested positive for TB (why free?)

iii. Trained community health worker administered daily pills to patient in their home for at least two months

iv. Village doctors paid $1 for each positive case they identified and $4 for each successfully cured patient
