PATIENT CASE :

A patient with Down syndrome is excited about his recall exam today. He gives you a big hug in the lobby, eagerly walks into the treatment area. During the oral exam, you notice there is moderate gingivitis in the anterior sextants of the maxillary and mandibular teeth. When you attempt to instrument these areas, the patient tightly purses his lips and refuses to keep his mouth open.
