Patient was admitted for a fever of undetermined origin, morbid obesity, and seizures. A 46-year-old white female, a resident of a local nursing home with a known history of morbid obesity and seizures. She had been hospitalized recently for control of seizures, returned to the nursing home, and developed high fever and delirium. Temperature on admission was 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Chest x-ray revealed cardiomegaly probably more related to technique rather than actual. Initial complete blood count was essentially normal; her white blood count was 3,600 which is low (normal 4,500 to 10,500).
