Question

A patient to be admitted with closed-ended questions seems too simple. This could be used for gathering information for initial assessments. However, knowing that the patient was diagnosed with AIDS and as a nurse on duty, the nurse also has to first let the patient feel that he/she is very welcome in that hospital. Adding some friendly conversations or some humorous topics between several questions will help the patient feel comfortable. For the nurse being too cautious for having a huge distance of 8 feet, given of course that the nurse is aware that AIDS is not as easily transmitted or contagious as flu and not making eye-to-eye contact while having a conversation with the patient will probably offend or irritates the patient. Therefore, the nurse will just create a conflict between them. The nurse in the first place should not execute a type of communication like that, it is a two-way communication but almost a one-way type of communication in the sense that the nurse's type of questioning has an answer of likely a yes or a no. In some cases, a closed-ended type of questioning is effective but, in cases, where a patient has a condition.
