Question

The patient is pacing with repetitive garbled speech. The patient will not focus long enough for you to complete a set of vitals but is willing to have his temperature taken. The temperature is 98.7 F. While you are there, the patient drinks 2- 16 oz water bottles in a 45-minute time period. Your patient has not been to school in two weeks due to this increase in thirst and urination along with bullying they experienced as the hallucinations returned. Given the presenting data, what do you expect is occurring with this patient? What laboratory data will confirm your suspicion? Your patient is a young man dealing with Schizophrenia. Be sure to recognize the various perspectives associated with the ethical and cultural issue(s) in the case study. What types of cultural and public stigmas do you believe this patient will face?
