Question

I believe when a patient is confused and is require having an invasive procedure the most important part is to have open communication. Although the patient is confused the nurse can still explain the procedure and bring some comfort to the patient. It would help to communicate before and during the time the procedure. With the patient being a female it is important for a female nurse to be with the patient during the procedure, this may bring more safety and comfort to the patient. After the nurse has explained the procedure, the nurse should still assess or follow up if the patient understands what was communicated, and if the patient is comfortable with the procedure. The healthcare team must work together to provide a safe and supportive environment to the patients' needs. In addition, the health care team should always ask for consent first. This consent may be done with the patient or legal representatives.
