We know that our air is made of more Than just oxygen. Suspended in air is something called particulate matter (PM) or particle pollution. This is made of a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets such as dust, pollen, spores, and ash. Coarse particulate matter (PM10 )- are larger particles, generally 10 um that are inhalable, meaning you can breathe it in. Fine PM (PM2.5) is much smaller at about 2.5 um. It is respirable, traveling deep into the lungs.
