We know that our air is made of more Than just oxygen. Suspended in air is something called particulate matter (PM) or particle pollution. This is made of a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets such as dust, pollen, spores, and ash. Coarse particulate matter (PM₁₀ )- are larger particles, generally 10 um that are inhalable, meaning you can breathe it in. Fine PM (PM_2.5) is much smaller at about 2.5 um. It is respirable, traveling deep into the lungs.
