"Participative leaders focus on open communication, which is crucial especially when working alongside multiple health care teams in a face paced environment. According to Boston Medical Center (BMC) article for this week, BMC developed a nursing counsel in different areas (nurse practice, nurse informatics, etc.) which essentially promotes improvements, delegates tasks, identifies needs and provides professional development opportunities (Shared Governance & Nursing Councils). These counsels mirror the roles of a participative leader as well as fall into the IOM core competencies. I found this to be a strong example of where leadership styles are at play in order to improve not only patient outcomes, but the flow/responsibilities of nursing. When all parties involved feel their opinion is accepted, they will be more inclined to engage and more inspired. I try to mirror those characteristics best when working with a group and will translate them into the nursing field. "
