Question

Shortly after being hired Mary is asked to participate in a coding policy and procedure update team project in which the team has been tasked with updating policies and procedures related to coding. The policy and procedure that the team worked on updating at the last meeting was related to acute organ failure. The current policy and procedure states that when a patient is admitted with acute organ failure, the acute organ failure is always coded as the principal diagnosis because it is the most severe of all medical conditions. Would this policy and procedure support ethical coding? Why or why not? Utilize AHIMA's Standards of Ethical coding to justify your answer.
