Due to the pandemic and the imposed community quarantine, a surge of 375 percent in total orders online was recorded from January to June of 2020, as stated eloquently in the article "Pandemic Drives E-Commerce Growth" authored by Lunas (2020). During the first half of 2020, Filipino consumers ordered a total of 9.1 million items, amounting to P5.6 billion, which is five times greater than the same period last year. It was also evident that there was a shift in consumer behavior during the pandemic. Most transactions like ordering foods and groceries, paying bills, buying digital stuff, health and wellness, and other household essentials are done online. The convenience that e-commerce provides to the general public fuels the industry's growth, and demand is expected to continue for another year or two.
With the availability of the internet and smartphones, purchasing online has been a trend, causing the dramatic growth of delivery service provider companies. In the Philippines, several companies that provide door-to-door services are known, such as Lalamove, Ninja Van, JRS Express, LBC, J&T Express, and others. As indicated by Sison (2020), these delivery services not only provide convenience for the customers, but they also render services like warehousing, automated bookkeeping systems, and cash on delivery as a mode of payment.
