Select one location in the world (including the U.S.) as explored in the HRW World Report.. What have been the changes over the course of this year in this spot with relation to human rights? What were the original violations, when did they begin, their status as you began your observation at the beginning of the semester, and what is the current state of affairs? What advocacy programs are in place? Has there been progress? What, in your opinion needs to happen for permanent change to occur? What are the current future outcomes in expert's opinions and your own?
Frame this paper as though you are preparing a report on a specific location to submit to the United Nations or some NGO to offer as an overview of the status and recent history of human rights, advocacy efforts, and assessment of potential outcomes.
To receive maximum number of points, your paper:
1. Will have minimal misspellings, typos, and grammatical errors.
2. Will identify and describe one country in the world, its geographic location, some basic demographics, and any pertinent background information.
3. Will include a thorough description of the status of human rights as you began your observation at the beginning of the semester.
4. Will include a thorough description of the human rights violations that have occurred during your semester observation, and the current status.
5. Will include a description of at least three advocacy agencies/activities that are ongoing in the country to address human rights violations.
6. Will include a discussion of your own observations and opinions about what interventions might promote permanent change.
7. What are the thoughts and opinions of at least two current experts on this particular country with relation to outcomes of human rights in the future.
8. A reference page to reflect sources. If necessary appropriate use of quotation marks and citations in the body of the paper.
Points will be deducted for:
1. Papers that appear to be unedited for errors, i.e., papers with several misspellings, multiple typos, or grammatical errors.
2. Failure to appropriately use quotation marks, citations, and a reference page.
3. Statements that are unsupported by facts and documentation, unless noted as opinion.
4. Failure to adequately identify and describe the selected country, i.e., its geographical location, pertinent information, and basic demographics.
5. A thorough discussion of human rights violations at the beginning of your observation and at the end of the semester.
6. Failure to describe at least three advocacy agencies and/or activities.
7. Failure to identify and describe your opinions of potential interventions.
8. Failure to identify and report the thoughts and opinions of at least two experts in the area.
9. Failure to frame the paper in the report format as directed in assignment.
