Your answers may ONLY draw from our course materials, and should not draw from any online resources outside of our course (I.e. wikipedia or other info). Any student who turns in work from outside sources, or utilizes writing assistant software such as Chat GPT, will be referred to Academic Affairs.
Short answer questions:
For this midterm, you are required to answer TWO of the following three short answer questions. You choose the two questions that you want to answer.
Your answers should only draw from our course textbook and other course resources.
For each question students should write a minimum of 300 words per answer.
Question #1 - Drawing from your textbook, provide an overview of social constructionism and discuss the ways that sexuality socially constructed in the United States. What does it mean that sexual categories are not "natural" or fixed? Provide examples to support your argument.
Question #2 - Drawing on your textbook, provide an overview of the ways binary systems shape gender and sexuality. How does compulsory heterosexuality, heteronormativity, and cisgender fit into binary systems of power?
Question #3 - Drawing on your textbook, provide an overview of the differences between transgender and intersex. How do power and binary systems shape these categories. Be specific.
