Question: As president and CEO of Hazards International, LLC, you have been contracted to prepare a brief for the governing body (mayor and city council) of one of the following global cities:
Mexico City, Mexico
Chittagong, Bangladesh
Tehran, Iran
Tokyo, Japan
Manila, Philippines
Instructions
The brief should provide both an introduction to the range of hazards faced by the city and should include a focus on what you deem to be the most pressing hazard. Importantly, this means that your report will have two fundamental parts
1) an overview of all the potential natural hazards, drawn from reputable sources, (for these cities there is more than one hazard, make sure you discuss all of them)
2) an analysis of what you think most important hazard and potential ideas for mitigation or survival.
This will be a written report and should be a ~1500-word report, well organized and richly illustrated. Make sure you cover all of the important issues, identify the scale of the problem (numbers of people affected, or timing available for evacuation etc.), and make some definitive statements about the most likely situations. Please be sure to provide a reference list of any and all sources, and remember to use in-text citations appropriately.
You may choose to work in groups, with a maximum of 3 per group. Please note that my expectations for the scope and depth of the analysis will rise with group work. Group grades are shared but everyone in the group should submit a copy of the report with all the group members' names on the report.
