The market-to-book ratio is one indicator of a company's value. It helps a publicly traded company determine whether or not its asset value is comparable to the market price of its stock. According to Yahoo Finance, Intel's market capitalization in 2020 (July figure) was $250 billion while its book value was $76 billion. However, Intel's market capitalization in 1997 was $110 billion while its book value was $ 17 billion.
Reflect on this, please answer the following questions:
Problem 1) What is the amount of hidden value for 2020 and 1997?
Problem 2) How do you calculate its market-to-book ratio for 2020 and 1997 respectively?
Problem 3) If this hidden value is considered as the value of Intel's intellectual capital, please outline the concept of intangible assets and discuss intellectual capital with its three dimensions based on Intel's case.
Problem 4) Compare with Intel's market-to-book ratio for 2020 and 1997, which year indicates the less value of its intellectual capital and why?
