Out of the four main types of workforce analytics, do you feel that there is one superior to the rest, if so which one? Descriptive analytics prepares and analyzes retrospective data to understand and analyze business performance or population demographics. The descriptive analytics is the "what happened" in data analysis. The role of an HIM can use descriptive analytics to monitor key trends and understand what they mean and can help employers better recognize and address issues. Predictive analytics is the use of data to develop business performance that represent the relationship between data inputs and outputs/outcomes. Predictive analytics is the "why did it happen" in data analysis. For example, predicting the effect of a treatment, or predicting which patients will respond to a specific medication. Prescriptive analytics refers to a set of high-value alternative actions or decisions given a set of objectives, requirements, and constraints. With this information, the role of an HIM may be able to determine the actions necessary to achieve their desired goals. Prescriptive analytics is the "what's the best action" in data analysis.
