Organizing and Delegating in a shoe store
Imagine yourself in the role of supervisor of a shoe store. You have two assistant or shift managers, who also sell on the floor but have authority only when you are not present, and seven salesclerks, who work various schedules on the floor. The store is not unionized. You have just arrived back from three days at the company headquarters and are faced with the following list of items in your in-basket:
1. Two applications for jobs (no positions open right now).
2. A note to call Mary (salesclerk) about vacation schedule.
3. A notice that the mall will be changing hours for the upcoming holiday and requesting notice of store plans.
4. A customer complaint regarding product quality.
5. Four shipping receipts indicating that about 130 pairs of shoes have been delivered and need to be stocked.
6. Bids from three companies responding to requests for bids on a cash register system (each store chooses its own).
7. A notice from the fire department of an impending inspection.
8. A note that the rest room is out of order
