As students in Health Services Administration it is important that you keep up with events that impact the way we deliver, organize and pay for health services. As you know the President of the United States and the Congress has proposed repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 sometimes called Obamacare. The Senate required 51 votes to pass the proposed replacement. The Senate could not get the 51 votes--it was voted down and so the ACA remains the law of the land. However, attempts continue to repeal the ACA. The Tax Reform Bill of 2017 eliminated a key component of the ACA --mandating that all un-insured eligible persons enroll in the ACA or face paying a penalty. Additional changes are being made to act including reducing the period to enroll, and most important possibly eliminating subsidies which help those who cannot afford the out of pocket costs such as deductibles and co-pays.
