WHAT IS AN MIS AND WHAT IS NOT AN MIS:
An MIS is a department within an organization responsible for the management of technology, data management, and data manipulation processes. For this class, the identification of an MIS is very much context dependent. For example, the computer on your desk or the tablet you use at work is not associated with an MIS unless the MIS department is directly involved with its management. Cloud computing is not an MIS topic unless an MIS department is directly involved with its management. Thus, MIS topics in this class are directly involved with the MIS department's sphere of management responsibility. Just because it is a technology or technical topic does not mean it is an MIS topic.
ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS:
It is asked in this essay for you to develop a reasoned view of an MIS department's responsibility. Tell me what it is, what are its strengths and weaknesses, and the difference between one who uses MIS products versus the MIS itself. This essay should not be more four pages in length.
APA:
For every project in this class and future classes, the APA style will be used to format papers, cite, and reference the work of others. At no time should a paper be submitted without proper APA format and especially without citations and references. Although each student is required
to purchase the APA manual for reference, we also may visit the Purdue Online Writing Lab for APA guidance.
With regards to citations and references, in graduate school we justify statements. Just saying it's so does not make it so. Otherwise the statement may be considered plagiarism. As always, if there are any questions please post them in the Assignments discussion leaving
personal questions to email or telephone calls.
