What do you think are the key contextual variables that influence an organization's approach to HRM? Which are the most important and why?

This is for my Strategic Human Resource Management class. The chapter talks about, the universalist approach to SHRM, the contingency approach to SHRM, and the configurational approach to SHRM. The question is what variables influence an organization to use one of those approaches, the most important, and why?
