Organisations and Behaviour
According to Hamilton and Bergstram, organisations have different structures and these structures have a bearing on attitudes and behaviour. Every organization has a different culture and structure which makes them a different performer altogether. Behavior of individuals working in these organisations also is influenced by the structure and the culture of the organisation. As part of a management training programme in your organization, you are needed to undertake research into; two different kinds of organizations one of which should be a local company and the other an international company dealing in 2 different products or services.
Task 1
1.1: Contrast and Compare different organizational structures and culture
1.2: Describe how the relationship between an organisation's structure and culture can impact on the performance of the business
1.3: Discuss the factors which influence individual behaviour at work
2.2: Describe how organizational theory underpins the practice of management
2.3: Determine the different approaches to management used by different organizations
1. Explain different types of structures eg: flat structure, tall structure, etc.
2. Explain the principles of a good organisational structure eg: division of work, centralisation and decentralisation, etc.
3. Explain different types of culture, signs of culture and development of organisational culture
4. Compare and contrast your selected organisational structures and their cultures
5. Show the relationship between an organisation's structure and culture and how it can impact on the performance of the business
6. Show factors such as personality, perception, attitude, self-image, etc. which influence individual behaviour at work
7. Describe the organisational theory i.e. scientific management, classical administration, etc.
8. Discuss the functions of management
9. Explain the nature of managerial authority generally seen in the organisation
10. Determine the different approaches to management used by different organisations
Task 2:
Your manager is impressed with your analysis on the last report and wants to give you additional responsibilities with a promotion; thus you are presently being reviewed for possible promotion to a senior supervisory role in your department and as part of your review you have been asked to prepare a concise booklet for aspiring managers which:
2.1: Compares the efficiency of different leadership styles in different organisations
3.1: Show the impact that different leadership styles can have on motivation in organisations in periods of change
3.2: Compares the application of different motivational theories within the workplace
3.3: Determine the usefulness of a motivation theory for managers
Task 3
A timed assessment may be released For students subsequent the HD programme the assessment will take place at 6pm. For all other part time students if you are unable to attend, the assessment will be posted on Moodle for you .
The timed assessment/report should be related to your own organization and the team/department you are working in, and:
4.1: Describes the nature of groups and group behaviour within organisations
4.2: Discusses factors that can promote or inhibit the development of effective teamwork in organisations
4.3: Determines the impact of technology on team functioning within a given organisation.
