Skills to plan, conduct and report on applied research relevant to organisational strategic practices and outcomes.
Skills to formulate a research proposal or plan which includes:
Specific research questions or hypotheses Valid population or sample size
Description of the geographical, cultural, social or institutional context within which the research will be carried out
Full description of the data collection methods
Analysis of the limitations to research design including the reliability and validity of data. Skills to design an applied research project.
Skills to compile a research report and present research findings.
Research must focus on the main factors that need to be focused upon to build a sustainable supply chain network.
Word limit to complete is 800-1000 words.
Instructions
This activity requires the student to act as Research and Development Manager at Coffee Rome and formulate a research proposal. The research proposal must include:
A clear and detailed statement of the research purpose and question or hypothesis being investigated and how it meets the needs of the target group.

A description of the geographical, cultural, social or institutional context within which the research will be carried out.
A clear and detailed statement of the policies and procedures for conducting the research which includes consideration of all ethical requirements relevant to the context and how data will be collected and stored.
A description of the research methodology, data collection and analysis method to be used, population or sample size and factors affecting the integrity, validity and reliability of the research. An analysis of the limitations of the research within the specific context, which are to be considered when designing the research questions an procedures.
Your report must use the following headings and subsections:
Research proposal
This list will help you set out the research proposal, in terms of text layout, section headings and sub- sections.
The Research Proposal is a complete description of the intended research, developed under the supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Through the proposal you must demonstrate that the research will contribute to the solution of the problem. The research proposal must be between 800-1000 words and should include the following:
Title
Brief Introduction
Background and statement of the problem (including a thorough literature review) Research question or hypothesis, aim and objectives
Study design (the type of study) Study population and sampling
Data collection methods and instruments
Data analysis methods - if applicable statistical planning must be fully addressed, or the candidate should provide evidence that statistics are not required
Mechanisms to assure the quality of the study - e.g. control of bias, safe storage of data Participants in the study - all people involved in the study, and the role they play, should be identified
Ethical considerations
Resources required for the study, including budget if applicable References
Appendices (copies of questionnaires, consent forms, etc.)

Why you have chosen the above techniques (50-100 words)
Three (3) data collection tools for your research project
• Data collection tools must be examples of the techniques selected
• Include the required specifications for participants, supporting documents and instructions, proposed analysis procedures.
