Assessment Details: Organisation design and environmental changes

Choose an Organisation that interests and/or inspires you and research and address the following requirements for your chosen Organisation. The assignment should be 1500-1750 words.

Assessment requirements

1) Provide an overview of the organisation, including its strategic intent, operating goals and performance (financial or other). Discuss the role of top management in setting the organisation's direction. Explain why goal conflict occurs in organisations and how managers deal with conflicting goals.

2) Define organisation structure and identify the structure of your chosen organisation. Outline the strengths and weaknesses of the current structure. If you were CEO, discuss whether you believe the current structure serves the organisation well or would you recommend changes? Discuss your reasoning.

3) Choose one task environment sector and identify possible changes that could present threats to, or opportunities for the organisation's future performance. Discuss the implications of the change for your organisation's performance.

4) Choose one general environment sector and identify possible changes that could present threats to, or opportunities for the organisation's future performance. Discuss the implications of the change for your organisation's performance.

5) Using exhibit 6.2 (p.219) "Four stages of International evolution" for your chosen organisation, identify and explain the current stage of international development. What would your chosen organisation need to consider to move to the next stage)? Identify the advantages and disadvantages of moving to the next stage?

The objectives of the analysis are to:

Improve your knowledge of specific concepts and theories of OT.
Develop your ability to apply theories and concepts to practical situations.
Encourage you to consider the effectiveness of various OT theories and models as they relate to organisational functioning in changing and complex environments.
Develop your skills in research, critical thinking and analysis.
Develop your skills in academic writing.

Appendix to the assignment - Your assignment must include an appendix consisting of examples of the organisational material sourced for the report. Suitable items include: material from the organisation's website; an annual report; a newspaper article; an article from the business press; a case study. All items from the company website will count as one item. If an item is lengthy (such as an annual report), provide an appropriate indication of its content and coverage, such as the title page, contents page and a short segment of relevant content.

Sources for assignment - Your assignment should cite at least five academic sources (books and/or other journal articles). You should cite at least three sources of information about your organisation.
