Organic reactions can be classified as substitutions, eliminations or additions and the reagents can be classified as electrophiles, nucleophiles or radicals. Reactions from each classification are involved in the synthesis of 2,3,4-trimethylpentan-3-ol from ethanol (as the only source of carbon atoms) and inorganic reagents. Write out the steps involved in the synthesis. For each step,

a. write an equation,
b. name the reactants and products, and
c. classify the type of reaction (e.g. electrophilic substitution).
