Policy Objective To ensure all Blue Bay ELC staff participates in opportunities for professional development that are relevant to their role and responsibilities and enhance the quality of service delivery. Rationale The professional development of employees impacts on job performance and is a key component of the provision of quality education and care programs for children and their families. Blue Bay ELC recognises the importance of a formal communication process between employees and management in relation to staff's ongoing support and professional development requirements. Strategies and Practices Considerations

• Professional development opportunities will be linked to National Quality Framework and philosophy of BBELC

• Is collaborative and fosters roles and responsibilities of management and staff

• Acknowledges different adult learning styles

• Supports individual skills and strengths of the team

• Supports the fun in learning and team building

• Verifies mandatory competencies on an annual basis where necessary.

1. Induction program The induction program aims to welcome new staff members to the Blue Bay ELC team and to introduce them to the service's operations; including its values, philosophy and goals; in a clear and comprehensive manner. An initial staff appraisal will take place within three (3) months of employment to ensure new staff are clear about their role and responsibilities and the service's expectations of them, and thereafter at least every 12 month.
