OPMT 301 Operations Management - University Canada West

The purpose of this project assignment is to report on an MRP decisions on planning activities, delivery schedules and purchasing activities?

The project: you decided to hold a party in two weeks and expect 50 people to attend. You decide to provide sandwiches and snacks and soft drinks.

Before shopping you will do some simple calculations, estimating guests' preferences for soft drink and how much people are likely to drink tea/coffee and eat.

You may already have some food and drink in the house which you will use, so you will take that into account when making your shopping list, reducing the list by these items.

If any of your planned party food is to be cooked from a recipe, you may have to multiply up the ingredients to cater for 30 people; again you many already have some of these ingredients in stock. In addition to calculating how much of each item is required, you may also wish to take into account that you will prepare some of the food the week before and freeze it while you will leave the rest to either the day before or the day of the party. Therefore, you will need to decide when each item is required so that you can shop in time.

In planning for your party you will have been making a series of interrelated decisions about the volume (quantity) and timing of the materials which you need. MRP helps make volume and timing calculations based on an idea of what will be necessary to supply demand in the future.

Directions

1. Calculate how many materials of particular types are required, what times they are required.

2. Checks all the ingredients or components which are required to make these future orders and ensures they are ordered in time.

3. Ensure availability of materials for the production (party) and products (food and drinks) are available for delivery to the customers (guests).

4. You are expected to maintain the lowest possible level of inventory.

5. Plan the party activities, delivery schedules, and purchasing activities.

Each individual should play a clear role and show his contribution to the accomplishment of the project within the group. Present your work in three (3) to five pages (5) maximum of an A4 paper size using normal fonts (Font 12, Times New Roman).
