A 10-hp, 230-V shunt-wound motor has a rated speed of 1,000 r/min and full-load efficiency of 86 percent. Armature-circuit resistance is 0.26 Q; field-circuit resistance is 225 Q. If this motor is operating under rated load and the field flux is very quickly reduced to 50 percent of its normal value, what will be the effect upon counter emf, armature current, and torque? What effect will this change have upon the operation of the motor, and what will be its speed when stable operating conditions have been regained?
