Question

In my healthcare organization, nurse informatics is greatly appreciated when onboarding healthcare professionals. The different types of electronic health record programs in different facilities have developed the need for individuals to be profoundly experienced and teach new healthcare providers how to navigate the programs. Different programs such as Cerner, Epic, and Meditech are some of the standard electronic health record programs commonly used in hospitals. Navigating and developing these programs takes individuals familiar with tasks done as a healthcare provider to cater to the needs of nurses and providers using the programs. It is reported that the increased use of computers by healthcare providers has also caused increased dissatisfaction with how programs are hard to navigate, and more time is spent charting than providing direct patient care ( Melnick et al., 2020). For every hour spent with direct face-to-face care, there are at least 2 hours of computer work or charting.
