Oil as an Energy Source:

Oil as a major energy source has been, and will continue to be, one of the more contentious issues in America. I think one reason for this might be the fact that, ethically speaking, Americans see two sides—on one hand, it’s ethical to keep the oil production jobs and to (in general) to keep and manage the status quo. On the other hand, however, many Americans see it as ethical to make a leap into cleaner fuels, even though oil continues to be a viable option. As for me, I’m one to believe in the latter. Our country was built by innovation, creativity, and a compulsion to do what’s right. And so as far as I’m concerned, these traits are all found in the decision to leave oil behind.

Nobody wants to rock the boat, especially when it comes to industries. But the switch to cleaner fuels is happening whether industry insiders want it or not. Just this year it was reported that more than 8.1 million jobs are to be found in America’s renewable energy industry. And while that number is high, what is most astonishing is the growth rate—the entire industry grew five percent since last year. Is it up to oil numbers? Not yet. The American Petroleum Institute stated that there are 9.8 million jobs in America from oil production. But it’s hard to ignore that the shift towards renewable energy is happening, and likewise it’s hard to argue that the industry as a whole will, once grown, have that much of an impact on the job market.

But because we are talking about ethics here, one would be mistaken to not mention the negative effects of oil. Greenhouse gases—produced from the burning of fossil fuels like oil and gas—have run amok, polluting our atmosphere. The extraction of these fuels from the earth has, likewise, polluted our lakes and streams. And nations have found themselves beholden to oil-producing countries, countries that have a tawdry past.

When one looks at both the minimal effects of moving towards renewable energy in tandem with the negative effects of oil and gas, I think it’s clear to see that the ethical choice is in the former.

What id your perspective on this topic. It ia an ethics question so answer base on that. Use the reference to prove your saying and attache with it. It has to be in your words.
