Theodore was a highly inbred, handsome rat with a very long tail (30 cm), while his equally inbred yet striking mate, Spacey, had a petite tail (6 cm). When Theodore and Spacey had their first litter, all had 18 cm tails. When the babies grew up and interbred, they produced 256 F2 offspring with tails ranging in size from 6 cm to 30 cm in the following intervals: 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, and 30 cm. Of these 252 offspring, 4 had tails of 6 cm and 4 had tails of 30 cm.
