Directions: Select one character from one of the scenarios below and prepare an assertive message to share with the other character in the scenario. You will be asked to share your assertive message with me on Flip. Type out your response and submit to the instructor prior to your oral demonstration recording. Label each step in your answer.Grading criteria: Grading is based upon addressing all steps to the assertive message and use of positive nonverbal including eye contact and tone of voice.
Step 1: Behavioral description - Define the behavior using I-language and neutral/observable language.
Step 2: Offer your interpretation of the other person's behavior. "To me that means..." Do not offer a feeling here.
Step 3: Offer a description of how that interpretation/behavior makes you feel.
Step 4: Offer a description of the consequences. Include consequences to the speaker, to the listener, and/or others involved.
Step 5: Offer a statement of your intentions. Include where you stand on the issue, a request of the other person, and/or a description of how you plan to act in the future.
Scenario: 1. Person A is sick and tired of coming home to a dirty house and no one, especially his spouse, is helping him clean. Person B, the spouse, is tired of hearing Person A complain about the house. There are more important things in life than a clean house. This morning there were no clean clothes for either of them and it was difficult finding car keys in order to leave the house on time.
