Question

Inpatient admission: he patient, a man in extremely poor health due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic alcoholism, was admitted for severe shortness of breath, a P02 of 42, diarrhea, and what appeared to be anxiety due to his alcoholism. He was placed on Ventolin and Solu-Medrol. Librium was also given for his anxiety. A colonoscopy with biopsy was done because of the diarrhea. A benign neoplastic polyp was biopsied in the sigmoid colon. On discharge, he was no longer dyspneic at rest. He was to start taking Zantac for colitis and to continue Solu-Medrol. Discharge diagnoses: (1) Acute bronchospasm with chronic lung disease in acute exacerbation (2) chronic alcoholism with anxiety disorder, (3) Benign neoplasm sigmoid 1 PDx 4 Secondary dx 1 PCS procedure.
