The pandemic has created numerous obstacles for the healthcare industry and has exacerbated pre-existing labor relation issues. Low pay, staffing shortages, inadequate personal protective equipment, and employee deaths are the serious realities healthcare workers have been enduring (Philbrick & Abelson, 2021).

Wallender et al. (2022) states that 400+ union contracts will expire in 2022, covering more than 207,000 healthcare employees. These figures will grow as federal reporting efforts continue throughout the year. Many strikes have already ensued, and if union demands are not met during collective bargaining, the potential for strikes will increase.
