Joan is an employee that normally attends work regularly, gets along well with other employees and performs her work satisfactorily. Lately, Joan is late for work, absent frequently, received a complaint from an employee in another department that she snapped at them and her last project she was assigned was handed in late. Joan's manager is growing increasingly concerned and frustrated. She cannot ignore the employee complaint nor the lateness and asbsenteeism.

There is a lot going on with Joan that has evolved over time. What steps could her manager next consider and take? Is the manager under any obligations with respect to the Human Rights Code? What could her manager or the employer have done previously to assist this from escalating?
