Practical Assignment 1
You are anoperational manager of ICL Graduate Business School. Senior management has decided to establish ICL Royal Gym Club at the fifth floor by joint venture (JV) with Royal Gym. The joint venture has maximum initial budget of NZ$ 500,000 in order to launch the fitness business after six months (from 1 August 2019).
Critical requirements of ICL Royal Gym JV:
- At least 20 pieces of exercises equipment
- Vending machines for snacks and drinks
- Property management by outsourcing contractor (assumed total net floor area is 2,000 sqm)
- Must have the website platform so that customers can book and pay online for daily, weekly, monthly gym access.
- Can accessFacebook and Twitter to advertise.
- Not staffed 24 hours a day
- Must require 24 hour CCTV surveillance system
- Require automated entrance system, customers are required to enter their unique pin code
- Gym staffs must be qualified with first aid training
- Major customers are ICL staffs, ICL students (80%) and external customers (20%).
To that extent, management assigned you with responsibility to lead a team (total six persons with expertise in different disciplines)to carry out this program. Your objective is to assess and manage resources for ICL Royal Gym Club to present to the management.
As such, it will enhance the benefit of fitness and healthiness for ICL staffs and students. For this sake, you have to access a variety of systems, resources and documents. Following tasks must be completed to introduce ICL Royal Gym Club.
Task 1: Charter
Develop a charter of the assigned responsibility to get the aprpoval of the senior management. Charter may include following components.
1. Title and Description of the task: Summarize key objectives of the program by paraphrasing
2. Your role, responsibility and authority level: Describe the relevant responsibilityof operationalmanager
3. Key Stakeholders: Identify internal andexternal stakeholdersrelated to the ICL Royal Gym Club.
4. Expected Key Deliverables (Outcomes): Describe each stage and outcome of each stage in the JV (at least 04 stages)
5. Budget and Schedulerequirements: Provide the estimated cost of resources required and specific schedule (Start/Finish) aligning with Key deliverables (see at Point 4- Task 1).
6. Resources Needed: Describe main types of resources with relevant examples (human, physical, technological, financial, other resources).
7. Assumption, Constraint and Risks: Indicate clearly any assumptions (under which conditions that operational manager can proceed), any difficulties (limitation, restriction) or possible risks of the project.
Task 2: Resource Identification and Acquisition
This taskrequires you toidentifyand acquire the resources (Physical, Technological and Human) that will be accessed and managed to implement the ICL Royal Gym Club .

Task 3: Resource Management
This task requires you to develop a resource management plan byproviding a detailed breakdown of resources, required to implement the ICL Royal Gyms Club.
Task 4: Team Building and Management
In this part, you need to carry out a number of subtasks, required for team building and management to implement the ICL Royal Gyms Club.
A. Identify and explainmotivation resourcesin order to manage the team for implementing ICL Royal Gyms effectively.
B. Briefly discuss examples of professional, ethical, social and culturally appropriate behaviour demonstrated by the team in using organisational resources.
C. Demonstratean understanding of following Interpersonal and team skillsto use the team to implement ICL Royal Gyms effectively. Must choose at least one of following skills
1. Conflict management
2. Influencing
3. Motivation
4. Negotiation
5. Team formation and development (using Tuckman ladder model)
D. Identify the professional development needs of the team to enhance their performance in ICL Royal Gyms deployment by completing the following plan for each team member
E. Developa recognition and rewards system to motivate the team members
F. Having worked in a team with member from different cultures and with various personalities, explain three challenges that arouse in teamwork and how you manage them.
